The hike

Crisp leaves after a week of rain
scent her muddy path.
With each angled step she avoids
crushing the foliage that creeps upon
the altitude gained.

Fueled by passion, anger, hunger
for more
she is searching for
a higher ground and sprints with purpose,
clear overlook bound.

Knowing her confidence may expire
long before her capabilities retire
She gulps in air and water
nourishing her shaking legs.

As up she climbs perilous with rapid breath
head pounding, muscles aching, no fear of death
her mind ceases to repeat
and answers come with the cadence
of her feet.

And she reaches the mountains crest
her heart pounding
a drum within her breast
alone, she relishes the view.

As mountains curve in ever green
the ocean dances at the base of her scene
and clouds cup the heavens
in bright blue and murky grey
she will choose to climb again today.

Wrapped: A Haiku

Entangled naked
All moments stopped - just breathing
and passion shuddered

There is no need to be wrapped
in lingering or more dramatic emotion
then one might gain from the hilarity of a movie
or inspiration from a good book.

Wrapped safely in that embrace
was only meant to re-direct their story
for a night,
like nothing more than a well
scribed fable, and nothing less
than perfect human connection.

Because we can not fall in love with a book
We can not imagine adventures with a movie
A painting will not call
and you can not take a romantic lunch in the south of France
with you to a dinner in Los Angeles.

From these fantasies, remain unattached.
yet acknowledge the inspired, exhausted, touched
anchored, and truly cherished feelings of the night
to be real,

because entangled together
breathing in tandem
beating drum-like hearts
and grasping hands

you were both unwrapped.

Just Get Climbing

I had a dream last night that I was mountain climbing, fell a very long way and was stuck. As I was scrambling to get my backpack, because it seemed without my belongings I couldn't get back up the hill, a wise little girl at the top of the mountain shouted - "Just leave your stuff behind, and get climbing.

My Space Mail is Down

So here goes - a note in reply to a really awesome fan.

Hey Iron,

That does not make me uncomfortable at all. I apologize for the delay in reply. I have been healing from a pretty bad car crash and have not been writing. I am honored that you enjoy my writing. I am glad I can inspire you to take control, move ahead, achieve. Relationships and life are complex, but at the end of the day - people are pretty simple. They want to be loved, respected, cared for, and honestly they want to give that back to people. We all must try to rise above our egos and do better each day. Being kind to human kind is our greatest challenge and most important responsibility. Keep growing!

Through Irish Eyes

I was told tonight by someone who's only seen my Irish eyes smiling and knew not of a recent saddened history of love and loss.

"I don't see any of that in you. I never would have known."

his advice

"You can have anything you want, so this time allow yourself the courage to be picky."

The wisdom of honesty shared on St. Patrick's day, is magic.

So even from you

So even from you, I have to retract
Because one conversation was that tipping point

and now I am missing someone, I know so well
and have hardly met at all.

How do I romanticize so easily?
A fantasy, a friend, and you probably want something from me.

Thousands of miles separate
and I cannot sleep because I will dream of you and

you took better care of me
than anyone I've ever slept next to.

Hungry to compose

I was left memory-less, pen-less, creative-less, thought-less and unable to handle the sounds of keystrokes just a few days after a seemingly innocuous cab ride, which became far less innocuous when we were rear ended.

Everything was fine, I was just fine, until I lost my mind. Then life stopped and I missed my mind the most.

Now my feisty thoughts are starting to fight their way back, their power growing, and I hope that soon - I will have the recall to compose again.
